This is the part of Turin most people come for: the swooping concrete roof the Minis drove over, and the rooftop test track above the old FIAT factory. All three scenes are within easy walking distance of the Lingotto hotel.
Location F. The Palavela at the top, the Via Ventimiglia jump below it, and Lingotto to the west.
20. The curved roof
You will recognise it instantly: the curved roof that the Minis and the Alfa Romeo police car drove over. The route they took up is the side shown in the photograph below.
The Palavela. The Minis went up the side you can see here.
21. The jump on Via Ventimiglia
From the Palavela, walk down Via Ventimiglia. Cross — with real care, it is a busy road — to the right-hand side and walk to just before the traffic lights.
Here, at number 226-a/228, is a grey iron security gate. This is where the Minis performed their jump and the police motorcycle crashed through a wall.
Looking down the alley through the gate, the Minis came from the right, from behind the building in the centre, towards the ramp you are now standing on. There was a wooden ramp built to give them extra height, and the police motorcycle went through a purpose-built wall on your left.
22. The rooftop test track
Walk on to Lingotto. Turn up Via Nizza and you will come to the entrance of the hotel that occupies part of the old factory — today the NH Torino Lingotto Congress.
The hotel entrance at Lingotto — the obvious base for the tour, with the test track directly above.
However you get up there, standing on that banking is the high point of the whole tour. It is a kilometre of track on the roof of a factory, and the Minis really did drive it.
