There was a time when being British supposedly came with advantages. People proudly talked about the famous blue passport and how it could get you almost anywhere in the world.

Then Britain joined the EU and, honestly, most of us quickly discovered something even better — the ease of moving freely between European countries. For our family it made life wonderfully simple. My wife is Polish, Poland joined the EU, and together we decided to build our life here in Italy.

At the time, it all felt straightforward.

Then came Brexit.

After years of debates, uncertainty and endless political drama, I think most people — whether they supported it or not — are simply exhausted by hearing about it. Every time someone here realises I’m British, I can almost time how long it takes before Brexit enters the conversation.

Usually not long.

The interesting thing is how much it has affected the property market and people’s thinking in general. Uncertainty makes people nervous. Not just in the UK, but across Europe and beyond.

And strangely enough, Italy now feels like one of the more stable and attractive options.

That may surprise some people.

Yes, Italy has its challenges, like every country does, but life here still offers something many places are losing:

• a slower pace
• beautiful surroundings
• incredible food and wine
• strong communities
• and a much better quality of daily life

Here in Piedmont, the market has remained remarkably healthy. Tourism continues to grow, international buyers are arriving in larger numbers and demand for good properties is increasing steadily.

And honestly, this year the weather has been fantastic too — which certainly doesn’t hurt.

One important thing buyers quickly realise is that Piedmont still offers excellent value compared to many other parts of Europe.

Because parts of the Italian economy struggled for years and many younger Italians moved abroad searching for opportunities, property prices remained relatively soft for a long time. That created opportunities for foreign buyers who recognised the long-term value of the region.

And while prices are rising now, there are still deals to be found.

In fact, we’re often able to negotiate surprisingly well. If you see a property on our website that feels slightly beyond your budget, it’s always worth talking to us. Sometimes owners are far more flexible than buyers expect.
