Did you get a chance to see The Hairy Bikers, Simon King and Dave Myers this week? The famous cooks from the north of England (Barrow-in-Furness) visited Venice, then travelled on their KTM motorcycles down into Reggio, Liguria and then up into the Langhe, finishing off in the first capital of Italy, Turin.
They stopped off in the town of Cravanzana, in the centre of the Langhe, and met a father and son that cultivate hazelnut trees - a real speciality of this area. The hazelnuts went into what is called Pasta Gianduja (also known as Nutella). Clearly, they both loved the Langhe and expressed their appreciate by saluting the hills that are lined with hazelnut orchards.
The Hairy Bikers then, after getting a little lost, headed for Turin - the jewel of Piedmont (Piemonte or 'Piedimonti' as Dave called it :-). Turin is a fabulous city to visit. We spend a lot of time there, it should never be left of your itinerary if you're coming to the area. They even got to ride their motorcycles on the famous roof test track of the former FIAT factory, Lingotto. This is the track made famous by the classic Michael Caine film, The Italian Job. They then went on to make a fabulous chocolate cake, make with the Ganduja in the streets of Turin (Piazza Carignano).
